SES, Association of Ethiopian Broadcasters (AEB), and the Ethiopian Broadcasting Cooperation (EBC) have made agreements that will improve the quality of the media sector in Ethiopia. By migrating to satellite, Ethiopian viewers will receive content that is more specialised to the country, as opposed to its more generalised content provided from orbital locations.
“We are at a critical juncture in Ethiopia. We want to harness the momentum for change and create a truly Ethiopian TV neighbourhood that will deliver local content to viewers in high quality, and fuel growth in the Ethiopian media sector,” said Amman Fissehazion, Chairman of AEB. “We are pleased to be working with SES and its local team toward this goal as they provide the dedication and experience needed to successfully implement such an ambitious project.”
The Council of Minister of Ethiopia today approves the news media proclamation that also governess internet-based media outlets, including newswire, syndicates, and social media, among others.
Unlike previous media laws of Ethiopia, the new law avoids unnecessary intervention and violations of press freedom by the government, according to Solomon Goshu, one of the lawyers engaged in the study of previous media laws of the country and drafting process of the new proclamation, who spoke to the state broadcaster – ETV.
Second General Asssembly was held on January 20th 2022. The assembly has concluded to retain all its past Board members and has welcomed Mr. Ehetu Belay of Ahadu TV and Radio to the Board.
AEB members along side other Commercial licensed broadcasters and Pay TV platforms donated over $2 Million ETB worth of goods to IDP’s in the Amhara and Afar region of Ethiopia. The donation was given to the Disaster and Emergency Recovery Agency which is the agency that overlooks all distribution of emergency support materials nation wide.
